The University of Crete took the 1st place among all Greek Universities and the place 351-400 in the world’s Times Higher Education ranking.
According to the criteria for the inclusion into the system only 1.400 Universities out of 22.000 are included in the ranking table. Among them there are also 10 out of 18 Greek Universities which are: The University of Athens( 501-600), the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Ioannina, the University of Thessaly( 601-800), the Athens University of Economics and Business, the University of the Aegean, the University of Patras( 801-1000) and the Democritus University of Thrace( 1001+).
The assessment of the THE is very detailed and includes an order of indexes regarding researching, education, sponsorship attraction etc. In one of the most difficult indexes the University of Crete takes the 109th place which proves that a remarkable researching tradition has been created. On the other side, the University of Crete has a very important disadvantage on indexes that are related to the Polity decisions( sponsorships, ratio of students to professors etc.)
