“It’s all Greek to me… – Well, not Anymore!”

Learning Modern Greek as a foreign language

We – Study in Greece – are very happy to announce the beginning of Modern Greek Language courses. Our collaboration with The Study Rooms – one of the top Greek language education providers – and experienced academics from renowned Greek Universities can guarantee high quality courses.

Join one of our Greek Language courses and learn how to speak, listen, read and write Greek with confidence.

Our courses are tailored to help international students develop their Greek grammar and vocabulary alongside their reading, writing, listening and speaking. Levels range from elementary to advanced, so whatever your current level, we have the right course for you.

The courses are separated into two categories:

  • Greek Courses for Certification
  • “Discover Greece” Courses

Our courses are shaped and organized so that:

  • They cover all levels of language competency (A1 – A2, B1 – B2, C1 – C2) as they are defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • They provide participants with basic linguistic skills that will allow them to communicate in everyday life situations by covering the grammar and structure of each level through short, fast-paced learning circles.
  • They follow the principles of the Communicative Approach, which is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning while using the four language skills: speaking, writing, listening and reading.
  • They are based on contemporary material (organized in units) which contains everyday life elements and activities along with aspects of the Greek culture (songs, customs, literature, etc.) and approaches other cultures, at the same time, covering a broad spectrum of cultures, ages, educational and social levels. This material is accompanied by the listening comprehension skill with dialogues – texts and exercises. It should be mentioned that the method also includes an additional appendix with the key to the exercises for self-study.
  • The grammar is presented with clarity, accompanied by useful examples, rules and definitions. There are also practice tests and exercises which familiarize students with the Greek language. Subsequently, the vocabulary is presented in tables and images, grouped in thematic circles. The texts cover a wide variety of interests adapted to the needs and level of the participants.
  • They prepare you for the equivalent certification (terms and conditions apply).
  • Α1 level (beginners) does not require any previous knowledge of the Greek Language.

These courses are ideal for participants who want to learn Greek in order to communicate and enjoy their visit or vacation in Greece:

  • For tourism
  • Seminars
  • Study Abroad Programs
  • Summer / Winter Schools

The participants at the end of the program are expected to:

  • Have the basic ability to understand and use everyday expressions familiar to them, as well as very basic phrases aimed at serving specific needs.
  • Be able to introduce themselves and others; ask and answer questions related to personal data, such as where they live, the people they know and the things they possess.
  • Be able to talk in a simple way, provided that the interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help
  • Be able to exchange information about themselves and about familiar persons, respond to daily needs (purchase of goods, etc)
  • Be able to produce simple phrases and sentences to describe and exchange information about themselves and their acquaintances, ask and answer simple questions related to familiar topics, ask for and give something, and refer to time and place.
  • Be able to make recommendations in the context of interaction and use basic expressions of greeting and farewell, ask questions to others and respond to answers, give direct and simple answers, possibly with pauses while searching for expressions.
  • Be able to understand and use, with some help, the vocabulary that corresponds to the described communication situations and to which they can be involved in fulfilling their daily communication needs. Successful communication depends to a large extent on repetition, recasting and communication restoration.
